I've always known this, but I've come to understand its significance more within the last few months. For some reason this fact gives me great comfort. Moses was one of the greatest and most influential prophets of all time, and he was adopted. He had a certain mission to fulfill in this life and he wouldn't have been able to fulfill it had he been raised with his birth family.I think about his birthmom and the sacrifice she made to make sure Moses was safe. I don't doubt she was inspired to send Moses down the river. I don't doubt that she loved him and that she made one of the greatest sacrifices of her whole life.
Moses' birthmom is like our birthmoms today. I have a great love and admiration for birthmoms. They are rare, statisitically only 2% of unwed mothers give their baby up for adoption. They love their babies as much as we love our babies, and for that reason they give them life, and give them to a family that can provide them a mom AND a dad, stability, and eternity - something they can't offer that child at that point in their life. I can't fathom a greater and more selfless gift than giving your child all that.
In the last few years my mind and heart have been opened to this world of adoption. I never knew I'd be a part of this world, but I'm so glad I am now. Adoption is miraculous. And just like Moses, children are placed into the homes where they are meant to be, where they can best fulfill their mission. Adoptive children are well loved by birth moms and birth dads and birth families, adoptive moms, and adoptive dads, and adoptive families. Don't ever doubt that they are well loved.
